FETAC Award (Level 5 – AACDX), Higher National Diploma, BA (Hons)

This course gives students the opportunity to acquire the principles, techniques and creative skills needed for a career in the animation and media industries. The course is unique in that it interweaves acquiring digital and traditional skills for animation. Students are encouraged to submit their graduation work to major Film Festivals and Design competitions.

COURSE CONTENT

YEAR 1 (FETAC Level 5):

The first year contains a broad range of subjects which lay the groundwork for the practice of Animation: Drawing for Animation, Painting, Design Skills, Art History, Image Processing, Animation Studies, 3D Studies, Materials and Colour, Life Drawing, Work Placement, Communications

YEAR 2 & 3 (HND in Animation):

Computer Applications in Art & Design, Historical & Contextual Referencing, Ideas Generation, Life Drawing, Animation Skills and Techniques, Applied Animation Techniques, Video Post Production, Audio Visual Techniques, Sound for the Moving Image, 3D Computer Modelling and Animation, Image Manipulation Applications, Animation Project, Project Management, Working in the Digital Environment, Anatomical Drawing for Animation, Film Studies, Experimental Sound, Work Placement

CERTIFICATION

FETAC Award Level 5, HND, BA Hons.

DURATION

3 years (4 years with BA (Hons) Degree option)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Leaving Certificate (including LCA) and interview (with portfolio). Mature and postgraduate students are also actively encouraged to apply for this course.

Animation, Illustration, Graphic Design, Film, Television, Multimedia, Advertising, Computer Industry.

PROGRESSION TO DEGREE LEVEL

Final Year entry BA (Hons) Animation, University of Wolverhampton or to the College of Art and Design, Dun Laoghaire.
