on the North Campus. It is staffed by a full-time nursing officer
and a doctor, in attendance four days a week, on a part-time
basis. Appointments are necessary however priority will
always be given to emergencies. There is no charge for availing

Mentoring System
A voluntary mentoring system exists for first year students. It is
a resource that is intended to facilitate the student’s transition
from second level to third level education. The mentor will
provide advice and encouragement on one’s overall approach
to and organisation of one’s first year studies.
Crèche
A fully supervised state of the art crèche is located beside Rye
Hall on the North Campus and this is open throughout the
year with the exception of Christmas and Easter. With the
increasing importance of providing affordable childcare facilities
on campus, the university makes a contribution towards the
running of the crèche in order to maintain the cost at a
reasonable level for those who wish to avail of this facility. The
Crèche caters for babies, toddlers and older children. It also
offers an after school service. Tel: 01-7083319.

students to get involved in social, cultural and sporting
activities.

playing fields were completed in 2005, facilitating inter-varsity

internal competitions, there is a FIFA regulation size "third
generation" floodlit synthetic pitch which opened in 2004.
Sports Programs: Inter-mural and inter-varsity training, practice
and competition is provided by over thirty sports clubs active
on campus. The clubs are mostly student-run, but several are
assisted by professional sports development officers. Facility
