About DBS
Dublin Business School (DBS), incorporating Portobello College, specialises in the provision of career focused Business and Law education as well as in the delivery of contemporary programmes in the areas of Arts, Media, IT Social Science, Humanities and Psychology.
Located in the heart of Dublin city, DBS provides part-time students with the opportunity to study in an environment that is dynamic, vibrant and has a pulsating mixture of cultural, ethnic and social influences. DBS was established in 1975 and its ethos is to provide programmes which are highly focused and relevant to domestic and international students and which employ innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
DBS Advantage
One of these innovations is DBS Advantage. DBS Advantage is an initiative which gives students the opportunity to engage in a development programme run parallel to their academic studies and prepares students for the workplace.
It has long been recognised that the role of third-level education is not simply to impart knowledge but to contribute to maintaining a competitive economy and also to play a valuable part in the holistic development of the person.
Part of this development relates to the fostering of “transferable” or “generic” skills in individuals. Examples of such skills are communication skills, planning, leadership, multitasking etc. – skills that are essential not just in learning or work situations, but in all areas of life. DBS Advantage assists DBS students in developing these important skills.
DBS continues to grow and build on its reputation as Irelands leading independent college. 2007 saw the College’s acquisition of Portobello College in July. The amalgamation of the two institutions creates Ireland's largest independent third level institution with a student population of more than 9,000 and an ability to deliver over 100 accredited programmes.
