“As a professional in the Medical Device industry, the MSc Quality Management was the first course that I completed that was directly related to my job role, the course material was very interesting when I was able to apply live examples to each module.
When I began the course in 2007 I was a Quality Engineer upon completion of the course I am regarded as a Master Black Belt in Lean and Six Sigma (MBB) and I was promoted to Project Manager so that I can implement my course knowledge on project initiation.
As I am in a high volume highly regulated industry, I did not have the time to complete the course on a full time basis, or take leave of absence to do the MBB so the electronic delivery method of the course on line was very suitable and I could log on at home or at work if required.
The lecturers and staff of the courses were very helpful and flexible if I could not meet a deadline due work commitments. The other professionals I met during the course invited me to their sites to see their lean journey and vice versa, so the value of bench marking and networking gained was brilliant.
I would highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to study Lean and Six Sigma, achieve an MBB and a Master’s of Science”.

“I found the course delivered a comprehensive over view of Lean and the tools available to deliver change. While in house training on Lean is possible within bigger companies, the over all view that UL provided is not always available. To your points below;
The practical aspect of the course ensured relevance to my work
It has helped me identify opportunities for efficiencies as a result
Although a busy course, the internet material in particular did support a better home/work balance
I found all 4 modules and the lectures 100% relevant, I have used aspects of all 4 modules continuously since and has improved my perspective on work and how to tackle challenges
There were network opportunities, due to the role I currently have I was not in a position to follow up on them but they were there”.

Relevance of the material to
your job
I felt the Lean Tool modules gave me the fundamental principles and key skills needed to undertake visual management programs I am involved with in my organisation and helped me promote improvement projects within my area. The project management module helped me strategically in successfully planning and ultimately hitting the given milestones within Lean projects I owned and the change management section helped me to understand and overcome some key behavioural issues that had created road blocks to implementing new Lean procedures in my organization in the past .
Impact of the course on your
career after completion
I felt that the knowledge gained from the course helped me understand the potential pitfalls that I may come across when implementing new procedures in my work place. It helped me articulate and explain the reasons for action and benefits of the continuous improvement projects to senior management, my peers and my employees through facilitating Kaizen/ boot-camp events and presenting out my findings.
The suitability of the delivery
method balancing a work and home life
“What I really like about the course was that I was constantly engaged with the material which made it much easier to understand, learn and apply at work. The engagement through the discussion boards was a master stroke as it meant that I was reading to keep abreast of course material, learning from the practical application in industry of the points being debated and discussed thus improving my own understanding of the core content. This alleviated the burden of major preparation for the term exams and I was conversant with the course content. The projects allowed me to take a particular topic to an in depth analysis and, being practical, allowed me to learn more about my own organisation, the subject matter and prepared me for the final exam ”
Perception of the lecturers and staff of
the courses
“The staff and lecturers were really co-operative, friendly and helpful, during the full duration of the course. The administrative side of the course was very professional. Our books were well organised, tutorials and lectures were always very well notified to me and there was always a friendly greeting when I rang the office looking for information. When the administrative side is so well looked after it allowed my total focus on the course. The lecturers were brilliant. They enriched the UL experience and Lean Systems course so much. The most important point I noted about them was that they all had practical industry experience which added greatly to the academic delivery. The marriage of both embedded the content so easily”
"The practical nature of the programme meant that I applied what I learned to a real work situation, generating a lasting understanding of the concepts".
"The periodic assignments helped you to constantly question the relevance of what you were learning".
"The programme delivery through distance education meant that it was possible to study at your own pace and fit in your assignments around work and home life."
