The Diploma in Bioprocess Engineering provides science or engineering graduates with the required knowledge and expertise to gain employment in the Healthcare Manufacturing, Bio-Pharmaceutical, Medical Devices or related Life Sciences industries. The programme contains mandatory and elective (*) modules in

  • Research Design, Statistics & Ethics
  • Industrial Microbiology *
  • Biopharmaceutical Processing (Upstream) *
  • Quality Management
  • Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
  • Recombinant Drug Manufacturing & Engineering *
  • Biopharmaceutical Processing (Downstream) *

Awarding Body

Dundalk Institute of Technology.

Applicants must successfully complete 6 modules in the year to receive the award for that year. This programme is linked to full-time programmes of study (major award) at Dundalk Institute of Technology in the following areas:

1. BSc (Hons) Biopharmaceutical Science (Level 8)
2. BSc Pharmaceutical Science (Level 7)

Candidates who successfully complete this minor award will be eligible for entry to the relevant major award in September 2010, with appropriate exemptions based on recognised prior learning and experience.

This programme is supported by the HEA’s Labour Market Activisation Initiative launched by the Minister for Education and Science in July 2009.

Who Should Apply?

This programme is aimed at persons who are unemployed and who have been in receipt of Job Seeker’s Allowance or Benefit for six months or longer as at 1 September 2009 or those who have been awarded Statutory Redundancy.

The course is suitable for Science or Engineering Graduates who wish to gain employment in the Healthcare Manufacturing, Bio-Pharmaceutical, Medical Devices or related Life Sciences industries.

How to Apply?

Applications may be made directly to the Lifelong Learning Centre, Dundalk Institute of Technology on the dedicated application form, which can be downloaded at: www.learn.ie. (Click on Download Forms button)

Along with the enrolment form applicants must also submit either:

Confirmation from the local Social Welfare Office of the duration of the applicant’s claim to jobseeker’s payment.

Or

A copy of form RP50 confirming that the applicant is entitled to statutory redundancy from their most recent employment.

Course Duration

The programme runs for one academic year.

September 7th 2009

Entry Requirements

Applicants should hold a National Framework Qualification at minimum Level 6 in Science or Engineering. Applicants who do not hold an academic qualification but have relevant work experience and are mature applicants (those who are 23 years of age on January 1st 2009) may satisfy the entry requirement. Mature students who do not hold the required academic qualification will be required to sit an interview.

Please note that the deadline for receipt of applications is Friday 14th August.
