ULearning at the University of Limerick: Professional education enabling you to work and learn

Established in 2008, ULearning is a blended learning development unit within the University of Limerick working with industry to incorporate professional qualifications into academic awards.

Its mission is to sustain employability of technological graduates while fuelling the knowledge economy through continued technical professional education. Programmes are in Lean Systems, Six Sigma, Technology Management, Science & Technology, and ICT (SD Automation & Control, Systems Security, Web Application Development, Computer Networks, Networks Solutions Architecture, and Software Architecture & Design), offered through a unique blended learning delivery mechanism.

ULearning courses allow progression from Specialist Diplomas to Masters and on to Professional PhD at your own pace.

Delivery of the programmes is a hybrid of traditional distance education, online participation, and face-to-face tutorials. Students are provided with a full set of course materials, including course notes, learning material, text books and, where applicable, software.

In addition, tutorial and seminar sessions are held at the University of Limerick throughout the programme. Students are supported by experienced academic and industry subject matter experts and tutors both a the face-to-face sessions and online and by a professional team of support staff.

In line with a focus on capacity building within the participant’s organisation, an in-company project is a key element of each course. This requires the partcipant to apply learning from the taught modules to their own organisation and deliver a defined measurable benefit that has a significant impact on the company.
