Courses for the Unemployed

UCD offers Java courses for 45 for unemployed IT professionals looking to upskill

UCD is offering low-cost courses in Java in a move to help unemployed IT professionals to improve their skills.

UNIVERSITY College Dublin is offering courses in Java, one of the most widely used computer languages in the industry right now, for just 45, in a move to help unemployed IT professionals to improve their skills.

As part of a three-pronged initiative to reinvigorate the technology sector in response to the National Recovery Plan, UCD is running the low-cost Java courses for unemployed programmers looking to upskill.

These courses will run in two blocks at a cost of 45 (in comparison to actual cost of 995) to help retrain unemployed programmers, as well as coders unsure of their job security in the current economic environment.

The Java courses were developed specifically for this purpose and will kick off in May 2009. However the May courses are now fully booked out and UCD are offering both of these courses again for unemployed people.

The new dates are Thursday 25th June to Wednesday 1st July for the UCD Foundations of Java, and Thursday 9th July to Wednesday 15th July for the UCD Advanced Java.

This is part of UCD’s three-fold response to the National Recovery Plan, the first element being the introduction of a master’s course in negotiated learning, where students can come along and take the modules they like - a flexible approach to learning over time and duration.

The second element is a conversion diploma for those looking to cross over into technology.
