Hello,

I am writing in relation to career advice, I am 30 years of age and was made redundant before christmas and started a new job in June, as an administrator, I had to take a 7,000 pay drop, and not very happy in the job.

My experience in my previous job was as an administrator with responsibilties for assembling tender packages. I would really like to earn a decent wage and maybe enter the health industry.

I would like to do a part time course, but haven’t alot of time as I care for my disabled brother and am getting married next year, so time is an issue.

I would appreciate and advice you could give me.

Kind Regards, Sandra

Hi Sandra,

Thank you for your email.

You sure do have a lot going on.

First question - aside from the money do you want to change jobs?

Second - if you enter the health industry what would you like to do?

Third - what part-time course would you like to take?

How do the above rank in terms of priority?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Caragh

Q

Hi Caragh,

Well I have finanacial commitments, so money is important, but maybe an admin role within a healthcare centre or care assistant, I would love to be a nurse but I reckon it’s too late now.

Hi Sandra,

If you really would love to be a nurse then perhaps training as a care assistant would be a good step towards that? It is not too late if this is what you really want.

There are a number of courses you might consider e.g. Healthcare Support (FETAC Level 5), or pre-nursing, Occupational First Aid (only takes 3 days)? Such courses are available on a module by module basis and are accessible on a part-time or evening basis.

In terms of an admin role within Healthcare settings then the usual job hunting techniques apply.

Please feel free to contact me again on this.

Best regards,

Caragh
