The Career Surgeon: FREE Career and Course Advice
I would love to become a Career Guidance Councellor
What I am looking for is a part time option to become a teacher of the above, as I cannot afford to give up work, or even a distance learning option would help.
Q.
Hi,
I was wondering could you help me with my dilemma!
I have completed a Masters in Business Studies: E-Commerce in NUIG, prior to this my degree was completed in GMIT in IT for Business.
Basically I would love to become a career guidance teacher, or get into teaching IT/Business, my degree is covered by Dept of Education.
What I am looking for is a part time option to become a teacher of the above, as I cannot afford to give up work, or even a distance learning option would help.
I have looked up the igc website for career guidance accredited courses but I can’t seem to find a part time course for evening of weekends.
I am based in Galway so courses in Galway would be preferable but open to all options. Any help would be gratefully appreciated!
Thanks for your help,
Deirdre

Hi Deirdre,
I think the UL option might be the nearest to what you’re looking for:
http://www.igc.ie/membership/how-to-become-a-guidance-counsellor
To become a Guidance Counsellor entails undertaking a one year full-time post-graduate programme in guidance and counselling (or it’s equivalent).
These courses are run in UCC, TCD [M.Ed], NUI Maynooth, UL [Part time].
As fas as I know there isn’t an out-reach course in Galway but the institutions listed above will keep you informed of any new courses if you ask them to.
Good luck!
